PLANNING - Step 1 - Determining Center of Gravity
03.00.00 STEP 1 - DETERMINING THE CENTER OF GRAVITY (CG).

The first step in planning an attack is determining the relative strengths and weaknesses of you and your adversary. Center of gravity analysis is designed to uncover exploitable vulnerabilities that will result in real and sustainable market share gains. The following approach is based upon Dr. Joe Strange’s methodology.

For purposes of applying CG analysis to market share battles there are four major categories of enterprise CG’s to be considered. They are Offering, Infrastructure, Relationships and Execution. Each CG needs to analyzed from the standpoint of it’s component capabilities, requirements and resulting vulnerabilities and have been further described below. This is a generic list. Feel free to modify the list to fit your specific business. The analysis should be done for both the challenger and the leader. Use the Attack Planner to conduct your CG analysis.
